In the summer of 2010, I took on the task of creating what was to be a 'teacher tool', which allowed classroom teachers to view their student's schedules, grades, contact information, and test scores.

The Struggle
Within a school district, student data resides across many systems (SIS, grade book, IEP, etc.), but often these systems are disconnected from one another requiring teachers and administrators to log into each system individually, then labor to find and join relevant information into complicated spreadsheets or databases with the goal of identifying students who are improving or need attention.

The Vision
My vision for this tool was much greater than what it appeared to be from the outside. My vision was to create a software platform that provided myself, and eventually other developers, a single way to access student information from multiple locations. This platform would abstract away the data source (example: the Student Information System, and grade book), so that the developer would not have to worry about the mechanics of how to access the data, and could focus on building functionality that displayed or extended the data.

The Reboot

I've decided to reboot my blog.

For the longest time I wanted to blog -- everybody blogs! - but I never could find anything good to blog about. I never thought my life was exciting or unique enough to actually be entertaining, let alone of any value to anyone else. But I've realized over the last few weeks, reading Steve Jobs' biography, that keeping a journal of my success and struggles may actually be worth something to someone - someday. Even someone who hasn't been born.

I plan to incorporate current events in my life, mostly professional. I will likely drop posts of historical recollections to try to fill in gaps.
